Zviya Michael is passionate about two things: design and her home in Tel Aviv. Zviya studied fashion design and went on to work for a company doing window display design for four years. It was there that she realized how much she loved designing spaces. During the pandemic, she found a way to connect her love of interior design and her home with the start of her own business.

“I’m giving classes to help people style their homes by themselves,” she says. “Home decor is very similar to fashion design. You can bring your creativity forward and dress your space according to your imagination.”

When Zviya started working on home decor, something shifted in her. “I noticed that it made me happy to come home. I want to spend more time at my place and share it with the people I love,” she reflects.

Want to feel connected to your community? Start by feeling connected to your home, says Zviya.

This realization only fueled her passion for helping others create a home that they love. It’s very important to ‘make a house a home’ because after a long day out, you seek your own private and cozy place. A place where you feel relaxed and protected. When you feel connected to your private space, your home, it will be easier to connect to your larger community.”

Zviya decided to join Venn for that very reason: getting to know her local community. “Life in Tel-Aviv is very dynamic and very private. Before I came to Venn, I didn’t know my neighbors. Now I’m part of the community which makes me belong and be a part of a family,” she recalls. “Community life is very important, especially during COVID-19, when we all suffer from isolation or quarantine. [At Venn,] we are like a big happy family which makes life easier.”

Boho chic? Folk rustic? Mid-century modern? Whatever your interior style, make sure it feels personal and authentic, Zviya advises.

Zviya recently started teaching DIY home decor workshops for her fellow Venn neighbors. “The purpose of the DIY class was to take everyday life materials and make them into something new. Every participant got a mirror, ropes made of straw, and beads. I explained how to tie the ropes in different ways, so each one got their own unique designed mirror,” she explains. “The thought behind that event was to make something that everyone uses, every home needs it, and make it your own “boho chic style” which is very fashionable now.”

If you’re unable to attend one of her virtual workshops, but want to get started in home decor, Zviya advises “you to seek your own style that meets your way of living and your character. Like boho, eclectic, country, modern etc. You can do so by looking in magazines or searching the web for inspiration.”

For Zviya, home is one of the most important places there is. “Home is my sanctuary, where I can truly be myself with no masks, no boundaries,” she says. “Home is a place where I can recharge, calm down, cry if I feel like it, or laugh my eyes out. Home is my space.” Zviya wants everyone to feel like they belong in both their home and their larger community. At Venn, we help our neighbors find ways to do just that.
